Soul Scythe
By: Rob Perez
Don't fear the reaper; fear the Soul Scythe! Alex Haze can say what
most people cant, he loves his job. Every night when the clock hits
Twelve, the Reaper's Minion of hell demons gather the damned spirits
and takes them to their final destination. Although azrael does run
a tight ship, there are some souls that escape the hands of Death.
That's were Alex Haze, the bounty hunter of souls, steps in. Armed
with the Soul Scythe, Alex tracks down runaway souls and delivers
them back to the Reaper. Alex has grown to enjoy this new life as
a living soul, punishing dead souls that fail to follow the rules.
He has also grown very close to the Reapers son, Mot. In the past
few years, Alex has played the role of big brother to little Mot.
Alex also has a set of rules he must follow. He has the power to
become visible, when necessary, to the living. But he must never
let the living world know about life after death, or form bonds with
a living person. Also, when a dead soul inhabits a living body, he
cannot harm the living body to extract the dead soul because if the
living body dies, he will be releasing two souls instead of one.
This would cause a premature death on the part of the living host
and disrupt the Reapers daily harvest. Fortunately for Alex, he has
the power to extract dead souls from living, or dead, bodies in order
to retrieve the soul he is after without harming the body.
When Alex was 21 years old, an escaped spirit possessed his body.
Death's Minion naturally went after the disobeying dead soul and
found him in Alex. As the Minion were in the process of extracting
the dead soul, they was tricked into killing the body as well. This
released both the dead soul and Alex's living soul. When Death found
out about the accident he had only two choices. He could either let
Satan know that he had screwed up, or cover it up by erasing the
memory of Alex's life and give him a rebirth though the life of death.
He decided to turn Alex into a living soul so his presence would
not be detected by heaven or hell, and he made him his new soul hunter.
Five years later, Alex has developed his powers beyond what Death
could have ever expected. Even with all his experience and power,
the dead still manage to find new ways to attempt a second shot at
life or to destroy it.
