Angel De Muerte
Writer Profile:
Michael A. Cantu:
Writer: Angel De Muerte
Age: 31 on the outside, but 10 years old on the
inside.
Occupation: Currently working as a videographer
with a local TV station and writing part time for Funcore.
Is crazy about: Dayanara
Rico. . .my girlfriend who came up with the initial premise for
Angel De Muerte. Thank you for being my inspiration and the light
in my life. I also have to give a big thank you to my family, especially
my Dad; Arturo Cantu, who died before he ever saw me come this
far. Dad, you were always there to encourage me and push me to
do the things I know you always wanted to do but didn’t have the time for. Hoping you’ll
continue to be by my side from wherever you may be now, Love Michael.
Loves: John Carpenter, James
Cameron, Steven Spielberg, John Woo, David Fincher, and other directors
that kick major ass. Eric Garcia. . . if you haven’t read anything buy this guy,
I highly recommend him. He’s funny as hell. One of the other
things I love is getting scared by a great horror movie.
Likes: Food. . .Don’t ask which kind, pretty
much everything if it tastes good. Reading my favorite comics over
lunch or dinner. A good movie. Quiet time at home. A great game of
Soul Calibur 2. Exercising at the gym. Laughing with friends. Sitting
at my keyboard and having nothing to say and all of a sudden, lightning
strikes my brain and I think “Wow, that’s a cool idea!” then
start hammering away at the page like there’s no tomorrow.
Dislikes: Brussel Sprouts.
. .Eck. That stuff doesn’t
cook up well any way you make it. Now that I’m old enough,
you can’t make me eat it if I don’t want it Mom!
Hates: The pretentiousness of certain independent
filmmakers.
History: It’s strange how I ended up with
Funcore. I was doing a story on the comics medium for the TV station
that I work for and wound up meeting Carlos and Roman through our
mutual connection with The Collector’s Authority, our comic
book stomping grounds. I spoke to them about my interests in filmmaking
and writing and Carlos asked to see some of my work. I showed him
a feature film script I was working on titled Angel De Muerte and
before you can say “Shazam!” I was cranking out that
same script in comic book format!
In the end, I don’t know where this
is all going, but I have faith in my talent and the guys that are
working with Carlos and Roman on the other titles at Funcore. Obviously,
they also have some tiny speck of faith in me, seeing as how they
are entrusting me to deliver a story to you, the reader that is
compelling and engaging. All I can do now is hold onto my seat
and see where this ride takes me!
